A recent case involving an AGYW who was forcibly denied the removal of an implant despite reporting to a nurse several adverse effects, including substantial weight loss, skin discoloration, and persistent menorrhagia. Despite detailing these negative consequences, the nurse refused to provide the requested service, alleging that premature removal of the implant constituted a misuse of the facility’s resources. However, due to the support provided by the CLM program, the individual courageously escalated the issue to the Facility Manager. This incident underscores the importance of educating individuals about their rights and responsibilities, a practice our teams emphasize during the morning sessions at facilities, focus groups, and health talks within the communities.
She further explained that she did not file a written complaint because such complaints are often addressed only after considerable delays and may sometimes remain unresolved. The girl considered pressing charges against the nurse but refrained from doing so as her parents are unaware of her involvement in family planning. Ms Moleko, the data monitor working at the facility advised her to attend the rescheduled appointment organized by the Facility Manager. Team Mokhotlong is pleased to report that the individual subsequently contacted them to confirm that the implant was successfully removed and that she is in good health. The District Coordinator; Mrs Makhooa concluded that ” what we do empowers AGYWS, they now understand their rights and responsibilities and proper channels for making a complaint”
YET AGAIN WE BRING A CHANGE.
