Leribe success story

During a recent visit to a local health care facility, Ms. Raliengoane, a data monitor from Leribe, encountered a patient who had recently undergone a pregnancy test. The results of this test were recorded solely in the patient’s health booklet, and the significance of these results had not been communicated to her. Consequently, the patient left the facility in a state of confusion and uncertainty, as she was unable to ascertain whether or not she was pregnant, despite being instructed to return after 14 days.

Upon her return, the patient was approached by Ms. Raliengoane, who was conducting a client survey to collect feedback on service delivery. During the interaction, the patient expressed her frustration regarding the lack of clear communication about her pregnancy test results. To exacerbate the situation, the facility had exhausted its supply of pregnancy tests and other essential items, leaving the patient without the information she required.

Acknowledging the significance of the patient’s concerns, Ms. Raliengoane accompanied her back to the consultation room and advocated on her behalf. She ensured that the nurse took the time to explain the contents of the health booklet and provide clarity regarding the results of the previous test.

As a result of this intervention, the patient departed from the facility feeling both relieved and appreciative of the support she received from Ms. Raliengoane, a member of the BRB personnel. The patient expressed her gratitude for the advocacy she received, which ensured that she obtained the necessary information to address her health concerns. This experience underscored the vital importance of clear communication in health care and the significant role of patient advocacy in enhancing service delivery.
